Quattro vele
In Quattro vele (Four Sails), Remoi’s Motivi Infantili (Childhood Motifs) collection explores a sense of freedom and movement, leading the viewer toward a vibrant and abstract marine horizon. In this painting, the artist moves away from the warm tones of previous works to immerse himself in a chromatic depth that recalls the abyss and the wind, while remaining true to the search for a pure and instinctive graphic mark.
The background is a mosaic of ultramarine and cobalt blue, applied with thick, vertical, textural brushstrokes that create a dense weave, much like the rippling surface of the sea. Within this blue expanse, glimmers of dark red and burgundy emerge, adding warmth and drama to the scene, like reflections of light struggling to penetrate the body of water or the remnants of a distant sunset.
Against this dynamic backdrop stand the protagonist motifs: four angular, sharp shapes evoking the profile of sails filled by the wind or the low-level flight of seabirds. These marks are traced using the signature technique of this collection: a bold, almost rubbery black line overlaid with a textural white filament that heightens its three-dimensionality and luminosity. The lines intertwine and overlap in a seemingly random way, capturing the essence of rapid and spontaneous movement.
In Quattro vele, Remoi successfully synthesizes the power of nature with the simplicity of a childhood stroke. The work is not a literal representation but a visual suggestion where the rigor of the black and white graphic mark challenges the chaotic vastness of the blue, inviting an imaginary voyage toward the freedom of the essential.
